In the stunning victory of tonights game the Marshfield Pirates took the League Title for the first time since 1981. Thanks to amazing leadership and teamwork the Pirates have beaten the North Eugene Highlanders 56 to 52. This game had the most intense atmoshpere out of all the games played this year thanks to the Marshfield Upbeats and Principal Greg Mulkey's "Who's House?" chant. We all hope to see the Pirates do well in the State Playoff matches that are yet to come but first lets take a lok back at tonights amazing game.
The game started off strong. For almost two minutes neither team had scored until the Highlanders struck with a three pointer. The Pirates, infuriated by the point, struck back with six points thrown from Ty Cutting, Kyle Tedder, and your very own Dalton Milburn. The game raged on with no fouls on either side, The first period flew by with an ending score of Pirates 6 and the Highlanders 8. Second quarter started with both teams hot off the benches. Points were being scored left and rights by both teams. Joey Morgan had some amazing blocks in deffense while Evan Porter threw three pointers like it was nothing. The fouls started comeing in the second quarter but none that led to free throws. Colton Thurman broke out some moves which really got the crowd and student body pumped and the atmosphere increased all the more. The first half ended with Marshfield with 24 and the Highlanders in the lead with 25. Second half came around with much excitment in the stadium. Everyone was on their seats justing hoping that the Pirates could win. The Boys came out like a tornado and got a three pointer right off the bat. The Pirates played strong deffense throughout the entire third quarter while at the same time racking up points. The third quarter went by fast with minimal fouling and a lot of good ball playing. Fourth quarter came around and the crowd was in an uncontrolable frenzy. The student body, led by Greg Mulkey, was chanting many different thing while the crowd watched and cheered on their team. Thanks to amazing playing by Colton Thurman and Kyle Tedder the Pirates pulled ahead with a six point lead with thrirty seconds to go. Then the Highlanders got a point and Marshfield struck back with their own points. With only ten seconds left to go and Marshfield having only a one point lead; Colton Thurman put up a beautiful three pointer ending the game at 56:52 and Marshfield winning the League Title.
