Southwestern's Men's Soccer Team has been successful at home this season. Lakers are 1-1 on their own homefield pitch. So with homefield advantage, SOCC looked to erase the previous game against Everett CC. A disastrous 5-1 loss against Everett CC brought up big questions. Can Lakers get it together and start winning games?

SOCC coaches Ray and Cole made a couple adjustments on their starting lineup. Gabriel Anaya has been battling a knee injury, but has healed enough to start the game as SOCC's goalkeeper. The first half was a good half for the Lakers as they controlled the field quite well. They had plenty of opportunites, but weren't finishing strong. Manny Mendoza #3 goes up for a ball in the opponent's 18 yard box and brings it down and finds teammate Aaron Kinnes #10. Aaron recieves the ball pushes it forward and shoots at the goalkeeper to find the back of the net giving SOCC the lead with the first goal of the game at the 31st minute. Halftime ends with SOCC in the lead 1-0. Coaches Ray and Fabian in the locker room told their players, "You guys are playing good out there, let's treat this game as a 0-0 tie and score 2 more goals."

Skagit Valley came out very aggressive trying to get a goal to tie the game. Skagit Valley had many opportunites to score, but with John Berry #6 leading the defense, Skagit was not able to score. Gabriel Anaya the Laker Goalkeeper did an amazing job today and had 4 important saves. Lakers heard the blow of the whistle that signaled the end of the game.

Laker Men have done it again on their home field. They beat Skagit Valley to improve their record to 2-3-1 moving them into 4th place. Lakers face a very difficult opponent October 14th, 2009 against the powerful squad, Chemeketa. Good Luck Lakers!
